A member of the A Quiet Place: Day One production team reached out after seeing my commission work and asked if I could design a custom wrap-gift Hawaiian shirt for the crew. Their only request was that the creature’s head be hidden somewhere within the pattern. The director, Michael Sarnoski, is known for his love of Hawaiian shirts, so they wanted something playful and personal that still nodded to the film’s world.

The biggest challenge was figuring out how to include a very… unpleasant-looking monster in a way that didn’t overpower the design. I approached it by keeping the pattern in a monotone color palette, which helped the creature blend in while still feeling like an intentional part of the artwork. It also pushed me into pattern-making for the first time - something I’d always admired but never fully explored. Creating a repeating print that felt cohesive, wearable, and cleverly thematic was a really rewarding problem-solving process.
